BMW Chooses ProActive Technology to Provide Custom Traceability and Verification System

GREENVILLE, SC – (June 8, 2004) ProActive Technology, LLC, a provider of custom software solutions and applications, today announced the completion and implementation of a parts assembly traceability and verification project for BMW Manufacturing Co. in Upstate South Carolina.

The project was designed to update and enhance the verification and tracking of component parts installed into new vehicles at the Greer production site. The new system enables associates to scan a bar-coded component to quickly verify that it is the correct part for the car being built along with other critical validation checks. It then stores the supplier’s manufacturing lot information for future reference; for example, in the case of a component recall, the exact vehicles containing the defective parts can be identified.

Bunny Richardson, plant spokeswoman, said that accuracy and efficiency are critical during vehicle assembly, and that ProActive’s verification and tracking system meets stringent requirements. “We told ProActive what we needed, and they provided a system that is easy to use, increased our efficiency and decreased our number of usable scanners” she said.

“Our goal was to minimize deployment issues and future application maintenance while maximizing BMW’s investment. Our design leveraged the DataMAX RFGen platform, allowing us to deliver a centralized, telnet-based solution hosted on a PC platform and programmed in Visual Basic,” said Andrew Kurtz, President and CEO of ProActive Technology, Inc. “This strategy and technology was embraced by BMW management and allowed us to deliver an amazingly flexible solution at a cost of 50-60% of similar solutions developed for in mainframe or Unix environment.”
